pattern making.

showing my development, from a simple line drawing, and how i can turn it into a pattern;

first, i added colour to my drawing.

then i duplicated the image, rotated it and changed the opacity.

using the eraser, i then deleted certain lines that i didn't want.
and was left with this nice arrangement of colour bubbles.

by repeating and rotating the image i can start to form a pattern.

design development.

our task today was to turn our visual research (drawings, painting, photos etc) into patterns. we had to create a number of 10cm square boxes to work into. creating as many different marks we could. the aim was basically to use our research in a creative way.
here are my very bad examples;

a few ways i can (kind of) jazz them up on the computer;
i quite like the scratchy effect the computer made. it makes them look old and adds texture.

develpoment.

being inspired by the delft pottery at the castle museum, i produced a number of drawings which i scanned and manipulated on the computer. i managed to create really interesting patterns by duplicating the image to form a repeat pattern. i think some of them are quite charming, like the tiles themselves, and i could imagine them being used as wall and/or wrapping paper.
i can't wait to take these into the print workshop to print onto fabric :)

visual research conclusion.

We had to choose one of the following conclusions.

conclusion 1 – interiors
You are to visit The Granary, Habitat or The Bell Jar. Find an interiors collection that you connect with or find interesting.
Create a range of final surface designs (minimum 3) that would fit into one of the
collections held in the shop.

conclusion 2 – fashion
You are to visit Top Shop, River Island and Nola. Acknowledge and
recognise the differences in their collections. Choose one.
Create a collection of surface designs (minimum 3) that would fit into one of the
collections.

conclusion 3 – site specific

You are to decide on an interior space in Norwich.
Create a drawing/s that consider the space and become specific and connected to it.
Show how the drawings fit into the space (minimum 3).

i chose conclusion 1 - interiors. i collected a number of different interior brochures from the granary which is a big shop specialising in furnishing and interior design. i decided to adapt all my work to fit in the colour schemes and style of each brochure. here are a range of my final conclusions;
