people tree.

of course i'm still being sustainable in my practise by using second hand fabric. i have managed to save the same fabric i've used in my samples; a blue and pink woven check from the flea market. it's lasted all my project that fabric, and i'm pleased i've got some left over as vivienne westwood is all about the check.

i have been researching into other sustainable clothing companies today, and the one i found most interesting was people tree.

they're a fair trade fashion company;

'For every beautiful garment People Tree makes, there's an equally beautiful change happening somewhere in the world.
We like to think of it in terms of our little shoots-and-roots motif. We provide you with exclusive fashion - the shoots - while at the same time we work deep down through the roots, improving the lives and environment of the artisans and farmers in developing countries who work to produce it. It's Fair Trade throughout. Simple.'

i really admire the work they do; http://www.peopletree.co.uk/content/ecology.php

flea market.

every saturday there's a flea market upstairs at looses down magdalen street. and it's the best place everr to spend your saturday mornings. there's so many goodies and treasures; jewellery, clothes, antiques, fabric, haberdashery, collectables, lots of vintage bits and pieces. so far i have managed to buy a coat, 2 bags, an owl clip thing, some vintage fabric, plates and bowls. :]
the haberdashery section;
 a selection of jewellery on show;

i also visited oxfam which is just over the road and found these old broaches in a glass cabinet;

looses.

looses is a HUGE vintage and antique shop near my house in norwich. i got there regularly to have a rummage but today i went to find inspiration for this project. as my theme is vintage, it seemed like a good place to start to look for broaches and objects that fit into my colour scheme.

 here are a range of objects i found that fit within my colour scheme;

and here are some broaches i will use for drawing inspiration;

east anglian basketry.

there's a current exhibition in the gallery at nuca at the moment, displaying lots of baskets...  'items representing the immensely rich and varied basketry culture of East Anglia.' as this is our 'weave' unit, i guess basketry links in really well.

plaits, browns, beige, greens, oranges.

so, as a drawing exercise, we had to study the baskets and do some mark making exercises. we had to think about the types of line we were using and weren't allowed to actually draw the baskets. we were told to look at the shadows, negative space, details connections and use a variety of hard and soft line.

i will post some of my sketchbook work later. although, i don't feel very confident with my drawing at the moment. this project is starting to go downhill...
